📍 From Altare della Patria, Italy
Quadriga and Altare della Patria are two of the most popular monuments in Rome, Italy. Located on the Capitoline Hill, the two monuments commemorate the first King of Italy and honor the nation's founder, Victor Emmanuel II. The Quadriga, a chariot pulled by four horses, stands atop a bronze fountain, originally placed in the Piazza del Popolo in 1885 but later moved to its current location to honor the new king. The Altare della Patria, a large monument to the King, stands nearby. Constructed in 1885 and inscribed with the King's motto, 'One King, One Nation and One State', the Altare della Patria is an architectural wonder, 63 meters tall and made of white Carrara marble. Its intricate detail and impressive size make it an impressive site to behold. Both monuments are freely accessible throughout the day and easily reached from the nearby metro stations. Enjoy this glimpse into the architectural and classical history of Rome.
