📍 China
The Qilian Mountains stretch along the northeastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, straddling Qinghai and Gansu; in Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, they frame high valleys, grazing land and agricultural basins. Snowfields and glaciers help feed rivers flowing toward the dry Hexi Corridor to the north, making the range an important water source beyond the plateau. Around Qilian County, the reddish slopes of Zhuo’er Mountain contrast with green pasture and the higher, snow-streaked mass of Niuxin Mountain. Conifer forests, exposed rock and open grassland create distinct bands of color and texture, while grazing yaks connect the scenery to local Tibetan pastoral life. Farther east in Haibei, Menyuan’s summer rapeseed fields spread yellow foregrounds beneath the mountain skyline.
