Beside the approach to Petra’s Siq, near Wadi Musa, the Obelisk Tomb stands above the rock-cut dining chamber known as the Bab as-Siq Triclinium. These Nabataean monuments reveal how burial and remembrance shaped the ancient city’s landscape. Four slender, pyramid-shaped obelisks crown the upper tomb, while a weathered human figure occupies a central niche. Below, the triclinium contains benches along three sides, where ritual meals commemorated the dead. Its classical columns and pediments contrast with the pointed monuments above, reflecting the different architectural traditions absorbed by Nabataean culture. Seen together, the two façades create a striking vertical composition: carefully carved geometry set against the irregular contours and warm, weathered textures of Petra’s sandstone cliffs.
