Puerto de Málaga occupies the city’s Mediterranean waterfront, immediately south of Málaga’s historic center, and reflects a maritime history reaching back to the Phoenician settlement of Malaka. Today, working docks, cruise terminals and leisure areas share the harbor with the palm-lined Palmeral de las Sorpresas and Muelle Uno promenade. Recognizable elements include La Farola lighthouse at the harbor entrance and the brightly colored glass cube of the Centre Pompidou Málaga. From the quays, photographs can layer boat masts and water reflections against the cathedral, Alcazaba and Gibralfaro hill, while the port’s cranes and large vessels create a striking industrial contrast with the landscaped waterfront.
