Puerta del Carmen is a historic arch located in Ávila, Spain. It was built in the 16th century and is one of the most iconic monuments of the city. Puerta del Carmen has a large Renaissance arch, with a pointed alfiz and decorated ashlar portals. Its columns have some nice Ionic capitals that are still visible. Its access doors are framed with shells, which are decorated with the coats of arms of Alfonso IX and Saint Mary. Puerta del Carmen has become a symbol of Ávila and it is part of its historical legacy. Tourists can visit the arch and take a stroll down the amazing streets that surround it. The Puerta del Carmen is definitely a must see when in Ávila!
