Puerta/Arco de Santiago, situated in the west of Madrid city center, is one of the six ancient city gates that date back to the 16th century. The gate is exquisitely designed, featuring three richly decorated archways. The right-hand arch is topped with a three-turreted castle and on the left are the arms of Carlos I. Standing in front of it, visitors can still get a sense of the old city walls. Next to the gate is Madrid’s iconic Guadalupe Market, where a wide array of fresh produce, plants, and homegoods from all around the country are sold.
