Pueblo de Acoma, commonly called Acoma Pueblo or "Sky City," is the historic pueblo settlement that crowns a sandstone mesa in western New Mexico and serves as the ceremonial and residential heart of the Acoma people. Its contiguous clusters of low adobe and stone buildings, whitewashed walls and flat roofs create a striking horizontal geometry against sheer cliff faces, where narrow alleys and terraced levels produce strong lines, textures and deep shadows for photography. The mesa setting gives sweeping views of the surrounding desert and emphasizes scale—tiny human-made forms perched above the plain—while late-afternoon light brings warm ochres and long contrast. Visitor access is limited and managed by the tribe; parts of the village are private and sacred, with guided tours operating for those wanting to enter.
