Commissioned by Pericles and built between 437 and 432 BC, the Propylaea forms part of the monumental entrance to the Acropolis. Designed by Mnesikles, it showcases elegant Doric columns, a central hall, and two side wings. While exploring, observe the blend of white Pentelic and gray Eleusinian marble that highlights the architectural sophistication. Once a lavish showcase of Athenian grandeur, the structure leads you into the sacred plateau where the Parthenon and other historic marvels await. Steep steps can get crowded, but the panoramic views of Athens are worth the climb for travelers seeking an immersive ancient Greek experience.
