Procida
📍 From Marina Corricella, Italy
Procida is an island in the Gulf of Naples, Italy, located near the city of Naples, and is the smallest of the three main islands in the Bay of Naples. Marina Corricella is the oldest fishing village on the island and sits on the northeastern corner of Procida. It lies nestled between the lush, flower-filled terraces with dappled sunlight peeking through the foliage, and the clear, almost translucent waters in which the village’s colorful boats bob gently. A short walk up the winding streets and along the main harbor brings visitors to the village’s charming old square, where local fishermen repair their boats, gather around the table for their morning coffee, lay their nets out to dry, and honor their saints with the traditional feasts. With its picturesque harbor framed by three volcanoes – Mount Vesuvius, Monte Faito, and Monte Epomeo – Procida is sure to capture the imagination of any traveler. Many of the island’s trails offer spectacular views and interesting ruins, including fortifications from the 16th century and a number of palaces. Procida is also home to unique cultural events, such as the Regata dei Quattro Mori, a sailing race held in the same place where the final scenes of the film “The Talented Mr. Ripley” were filmed in the late 1990s.
