Praia de Atins is the broad Atlantic beach fronting Atins, a small coastal village in the municipality of Barreirinhas, near the mouth of the Preguiças River and the eastern edge of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. Its landscape joins open sea, wind-shaped dunes and wide tidal sands, reflecting the meeting of Maranhão’s coast with the park’s immense dune system. Fishing boats, simple beach shelters and colorful kitesurfing sails animate the otherwise expansive horizon. At low tide, shallow water left across the sand creates reflections and emphasizes the beach’s scale; the persistent coastal wind adds rippled textures to both sand and water. Atins is generally approached from Barreirinhas by boat or by vehicle along sandy tracks.
