Pozzo di San Patrizio, or St. Patrick's Well, is a remarkable feat of Renaissance engineering located in Orvieto, Italy. Constructed between 1527 and 1537 by architect Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, this well was designed to supply Orvieto's fortress with water in times of siege. Its spiraling double helix staircase consists of 248 steps, allowing mules to carry water without encountering traffic. The well reaches a depth of approximately 53 meters, with a diameter of 13 meters, offering stunning photographic opportunities of its intricate design and spiral perspectives. The play of light filtering through its 72 windows onto its brickwork creates captivating textures, ideal for capturing the atmosphere of this historical marvel.
