Postojna Cave, in Postojna, Slovenia, is home to spectacular underground stalactites and stalagmites, and is the longest cave in the country. Postojna is a remarkable natural phenomenon - a 22 km long subterranean karst system, with two parts, one of them 3 km long and open to visitors since 1819. It is home to several underground creatures, such as the olm (an endangered salamander species) and Proteus anguinus, a rare species of salamander native to the cave. The cave and its surroundings also offer unique experiences such as train rides, event halls, bars and restaurants. Visitors can take the small electric train, which will take them to the inner caves and back. There are various paths and routes, starting from the subterranean halls, including the “Pearl of the cave”, which is one of the most visited parts. In Postojna Cave, you can also find numerous galleries, hallways and a huge underground river.
