The Porticato di San Giacomo Maggiore in Bologna, Italy is a fascinating sight to explore. This 13th-century cloister was built to accompany the San Giacomo Maggiore church. The portico is a large gallery featuring intricately detailed designs which were commissioned by the Della Scala family, which ruled Verona at the time. The inner part of the gallery also holds several beautiful arches which dissolve into a graceful oculus above. Here you will find an elegant arcade of columns crafted from Istrian stone and decorated with beautiful tracery and foliage. This area is a testament to the skill of the Romanesque artisans and a must-visit destination on your trip to Bologna.
