📍 United Kingdom
Portencross Pier is a scenic spot located in North Ayrshire, Scotland. It is a traditional rural pier that juts out into the Firth of Clyde, providing an expansive view of the sea and the islands of Arran, Bute and the Cumbraes. The pier was originally built in the 16th century for smuggling, and later developed for fishing, until 1983 when the pier was taken over by the local council. Visitors to Portencross Pier are welcomed to explore the pier on foot and take in the beautiful views, which include rolling grassy hills, sand and rock formations underneath, and seabirds. There are also rows of stone pillars that line the beach and create a tranquil atmosphere. It is also an ideal spot for beach combing, with a range of interesting items sometimes turning up on the shore, from pieces of sea glass to larger items such as rudders, anchors, fishing sinkers and boat propellers.
