Porte Narbonnaise and Buste de Dame Carcas is one of the most iconic structures in Carcassonne, France. It is part of the fortified city's medieval fortifications, built from the 13th to 15th centuries and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is an imposing structure built into the side of the city and offers visitors a glimpse into its medieval past. The Porte Narbonnaise sits over an archway which stood at the entrance to the citadel and is also known as the Gateway to the Cité. The Buste de Dame Carcas is a 15th century statue that stands to the left of the gate and is said to represent the legendary Lady Carcas who defended her city from siege. Visitors can explore the ramparts and towers of the fortifications, take in the ancient stone walls and admire the breath-taking views of the Rhone Valley and the Pyrenees Mountains.
