Port de La Baule-Le Pouliguen occupies the tidal channel between Le Pouliguen and La Baule-Escoublac, at the western end of the broad Bay of La Baule. Once closely tied to fishing and the salt trade of the nearby Guérande marshes, it now combines working waterfront character with a marina lined by quays, cafés and promenades. The scene is defined by two facing town fronts, dense rows of masts and boats reflected in the narrow inlet. Changing tides continually reshape the view, exposing muddy banks at low water and bringing hulls closer to quay level at high tide, while the channel opening frames the bay and Atlantic horizon.
