📍 From Piers, Portugal
Ponte Luís I is an iconic double-level bridge located in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, connecting the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. Built between 1881 and 1886, the bridge was modelled after the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris and is made up of two parts: a high level supported by two channels and a lower level bordered by distinctive arms. Architecturally, the bridge is a great example of the Romantic-era's neo-Gothic style. Its metallic structure displays intricate details and impressive ornaments, as well as a bronze portrait of King Luís at the very top of the arch. On the upper-level, visitors can also enjoy a spectacular view of the Douro River and the city of Porto, which many consider one of the most beautiful in Europe. Ponte Luís I is an enticing attraction for visitors, a great place for enjoying leisurely strolls and marveling at the landscape.
