📍 From Luís I Bridge, Portugal
Ponte Infante Dom Henrique is a bridge in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, flanked between the historical centre of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. It is a suspension bridge built in the late 1960s and is one of the few bridges in Portugal that connects Porto to the banks of Douro. The bridge offers amazing views of the two cities, the river and the Dom Luis I bridge. It was built in commemoration of Portuguese navigator Infanta Dom Henrique, a legendary explorer who paved the way for Portuguese exploration of the world in the 15th century. Also known as Ponte dona Maria Pia, it stretches for 280 metres and features five arches. It is a favourite spot for scenic walks and offers a unique perspective of the two neighbouring cities. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes along the banks of River Douro which offer spectacular view of the bridge. Parking is available near the bridge as is a public transportation option.
