📍 Italy
Ponte dei Sette Martiri is a pedestrian bridge on the lagoon-facing waterfront of Castello, Venice’s eastern district, along the promenade leading toward the Giardini. Its name means “Bridge of the Seven Martyrs” and recalls seven men executed by German occupying forces on this waterfront in 1944. The open setting contrasts with Venice’s enclosed interior canals: boats cross the broad basin, while the church and bell tower of San Giorgio Maggiore form a recognizable silhouette across the water. The surrounding promenade places the bridge within the city’s maritime landscape rather than its maze of narrow lanes.
