Ponte 25 de Abril is one of the most iconic structures in Lisbon situated between the south bank of the Tagus River and the stunning Parque das Nações. The magnificent steel-suspension bridge was built in 1966 and has many features which make it a tourist attraction. It is 1,988 metres-long, it has towers reaching up to 115 metres high and on a clear day you can take stunning views from it stretching from Cascais, on the Atlantic Coast, to the estuary of the Tagus. The magnificent red signage on the south face of the bridge visible from afar was created by Jaime Roos and pays tribute to the relations between Portugal and Brazil. The pylons of Ponte 25 de Abril share the same structure as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and are connected to five-storey pedestrian walkways that are free to access.
