Tatev Monastery, situated in the Syunik Province in Armenia, is a 10th-century Armenian Apostolic monastery. Sitting atop a huge basalt plateau overlooking the Vorotan River Canyon, the monastery played an important role in the history of the country. Tatev Monastery’s most prominent feature is its 9th century monumental winged-covered stairway, known as 'The Path to Heaven.' This monument has one of the most awe-inspiring views in all of Armenia. The stylishly designed building, called 'the pearl of Syunik,' towers over the embankment and features a central church, a surrounding gallery and several other structures. The main church is regarded as one of the most attractive examples of Armenian architecture, with its beautiful ornate facades, elegant doors and windows. To this date, the monastery remains a spiritual and religious destination for travelers interested in experiencing Armenian culture, faith and history.
