Pont du Gard is an impressive ancient aqueduct built by the Romans in the 1st century and located in Vers-Pont-du-Gard, France. The three-tier aqueduct, made of local limestone with no mortar, stands 50m (164ft) tall and is 902m (2,960ft) long. It is considered one of the finest surviving relics of Roman engineering. Visitors can take a stroll along the aqueduct, getting close enough to take amazing pictures, learning about its remarkable construction. There are also walking and biking trails around the river, offering spectacular views of the aqueduct and its surroundings. The region also boasts several other historical landmarks, such as the Gallo-Roman remains, an archeological museum and the remains of some old Roman bridges. Pont du Gard is a popular tourist destination and a must-see for anyone passing through the region.
