The Pont des Arts is a pedestrian bridge across the River Seine, located in the heart of Paris, France. The bridge was popular among painters and photographers in the 19th century; in fact, many books and novels feature scenes that take place here. The structure was constructed in the 18th century and eventually restored in the 1980s. Some of its ornate ironwork has been replaced with replicas in recent years. Today, the bridge is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike, known for its romantic views over Paris and its Picasso mural. The bridge in the past has been used to signify a strong bond between two people; it is a tradition for couples to attach a padlock to the bridge to show their everlasting love. The area around the bridge is known as the Passarelle des Arts, and is home to several galleries and museums, as well as cafés and bars.
