
The Pont de Besalú, a historic bridge in Besalú, Catalonia, Spain, is an iconic attraction in the area. This single-arch bridge was built between the years of 950 to 1000 A.D., making it one of the oldest arch bridges in the world. The bridge's single arch spans the Fluvià River and the length of the bridge is 55 meters. The stonework consists of a shallow pointed arch which is held up by a barrel vaulted passage over the several supporting piers that are built of hewn stone. On the eastern side of the bridge lies the remains of an old chapel. Located in the medieval town of Besalú, the Pont de Besalú has become one of the main landmarks of this area, attracting thousands of visitors year round.
