📍 India
Ponmudi is a hill station in Kerala’s Western Ghats, northeast of Thiruvananthapuram, where tropical forest gives way to rounded, grass-covered hilltops. Rising to roughly 1,100 metres above sea level, it forms a striking geographical contrast to the coastal plains around Kerala’s capital. The ascent from Kallar follows a winding road through wooded slopes, with hairpin bends marking the climb toward more open terrain. Overlapping green ridges, dark forested valleys and drifting low cloud define the landscape. In photographs, the smooth contours of the grasslands stand out against the dense woodland below, while mist alternately conceals and reveals the more distant hills.
