Pointe Du Hoc is a WWII memorial site, located in the small seaside village of Cricqueville-en-Bessin, France. It is a steep limestone cliff that is approximately 100 meters high and is surrounded by steep drop-offs. After the Allied Invasion in June 1944, the U.S. Army Rangers scaled these cliffs at dawn, as part of the D-day landing. The battle that unfolded here was one of the great victories of World War II. Pointe Du Hoc today is a popular destination for travelers, historians and photographers. It offers stunning views of the vast English Channel and the Normandy coast, and visitors can explore the bunkers and gun emplacements that give insight into a battle that changed the course of history. The surrounding grounds also hold monuments and permanent displays in tribute to both the U.S. and German soldiers who fought at Pointe Du Hoc. It is an important place to visit and pay homage to those who had a hand in making our world what it is today.
