The Plaza Mayor of Salamanca is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved public squares in Europe. It was built in 1729 by Alejandro de Ribera and Jeronimo Garcia de Quiñones in a Baroque style. Its façades are covered in pink granite and it has a very beautiful enclosed portico with huge granite pillars. It is the main gathering place of the city and it contains the Town Hall, shops, cafés and the traditional bandstand. It is surrounded by the Colegio del Mayor de San Bartolomé, the Colegio Mayor de San Marcos, the Church of La Clerecia, and many other important buildings. The location of this stunning square in the heart of the old city makes it a must-see for tourists. It is a great place to take a leisurely walk or sit and feel the atmosphere of the city. If you’re looking for souvenirs, there are plenty of shops available. Whether at night or day, Plaza Mayor is a great place to soak up the atmosphere of the city.
