Plaza Mayor de Morón de Almazán is the principal town square of this small Castilian town in Soria, a compact, atmospheric public space that concentrates civic, religious and social life. Framed by stone arcades, timbered balconies and masonry houses, the square functions as a medieval market and festival stage: its elongated rectangular plan opens toward the Church of San Miguel, making the plaza both a meeting place and a visual axis linking sacred and civic functions. Historically the square grew from the town’s medieval repopulation and later urban consolidations; surviving elements of the surrounding fabric date from the 15th–18th centuries and reflect Morón’s role as a local administrative and agricultural centre. Architecturally noteworthy are the contiguous arcaded façades with round arches and local ashlar work, the sober vernacular houses with wooden lintels and coat-of-arms plaques, and the church’s baroque doorway that terminates the plaza’s vista. Unique local features include the traditional market days and the square’s use for the annual fiestas and bull-related festivities, during which temporary wooden barreras are installed on the stone paving—an enduring expression of community ritual tied to the plaza’s layout.
