Plaza de la Armería is one of the most beautiful and historic squares in Madrid. The Plaza stands at the gate of the Royal Palace, which was originally the home of the kings of Spain. The Square is surrounded by a grand white fence, adorned with beautiful iron railings. One of the Square's most notable sights is a bronze statue of King Philip IV of Spain, which dates back to the 17th century. It is also home to the Teatro Real, one of the most prestigious opera houses in the country. On the opposite side of the square, there is a large equestrian statue of Godfrey of Bouillon, one of the military leaders of the First Crusade. The Plaza also features several beautiful fountains and gardens. Visitors can enjoy sitting and strolling through the plaza, taking in the stunning architectural details, or taking advantage of the cafe that's located there.
