Place François Rude is a beautiful, open square located in the historical heart of Dijon, France. It is named for the renowned 19th century sculptor, François Rude and the fountain in the center of the square is adorned with one of his iconic figures, Minerva. On the north side of the square is the beautiful Notre Dame church and to the south is the magnificently preserved Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy. A great spot to take in the old-world atmosphere of the city, Place François Rude is also an ideal place to take a break and enjoy the buzzing café life. Tourists and locals alike can be seen sipping coffee and nibbling on an assortment of savory pastries. A visit to this inviting square is not complete without a stroll through the Dijon market, which takes place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Whether for taking in some fresh air and the sights of Dijon, or to pick up some local produce, Place François Rude is definitely a must-visit.
