Plaça del Pou is Altafulla’s historic civic square, set within the Vila Closa, the walled old quarter above the coast. Its name refers to the old public well, while the Town Hall façade gives the space its formal character. The square is especially recognizable for Martí Royo’s sculptural monument to the castellers, a vertical human tower that connects Altafulla with Catalonia’s deep-rooted castell tradition. Stone paving, pale façades, wooden shutters and the sculpture’s upward rhythm create strong contrasts of texture and scale, with everyday café and municipal activity keeping the scene tied to local life rather than functioning as a preserved monument alone.
