Rosh Hanikra (Hebrew: ראש הנקרה) is a geologic formation located in the Western Galilee region of Northern Israel. It is situated on the border between Israel and Lebanon, and has become a popular tourist attraction. It has been defended over the millenia due to its strategic location. Visitors to Rosh Hanikra can explore the stunning limestone cliffs that are part of the Mediterranean Sea, looking out onto the ocean and the coastal town of Naftali. The cable car ride up the mountain provides a thrilling experience. At the top, one can find an old 19th century fortress. It is also possible to visit an intricately carved grotto and a secret naval base. Great photo opportunities exist to capture the Israel-Lebanon boundary marker and the views of the sea from the cliff-top. Visitors should bring good walking shoes and beware of the local wildlife. It's an experience a traveler and photographer should not miss!
