Pienza is a small Tuscan hilltown in Sinalunga, a valley in the province of Siena, Italy. It was declared a "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO in 1996 and is considered by many as the most beautiful village in Italy. It is the birthplace of Pope Pius II Piccolomini and is one of the most important villages in the region with its unique architecture, gastronomy, and culture. The town has a small population but is extremely tourist friendly. It is also known for its excellent selection of restaurants and hotels. Highlights of the village include the 15th-century Palazzo Pictimini which houses the relics of Pope Pius II, the 14th century Church of San Francesco, the Cathedral of Saint Mary of Assumption, and the cobblestone main square.
