📍 From Boat, New Zealand
Picton Harbour lies beside Shakespeare Bay at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound/Tōtaranui, where Picton serves as the South Island gateway for ferries crossing Cook Strait. The sheltered water is framed by steep, forested hills characteristic of the drowned valleys of the Marlborough Sounds. Marinas, ferry berths and waterfront buildings give the harbour a layered working character, while nearby Shakespeare Bay adds cargo-port infrastructure to the scene. From elevated points around the bays, photographs can combine curving shorelines, vessels and ridgelines; at water level, reflections and the contrast between small boats, large ferries and wooded slopes define the view.
