The Picos de Europa rise above Brez, a village in the municipality of Camaleño, in Cantabria’s Liébana region. This northern Spanish mountain range extends across Cantabria, Asturias and León, its limestone massifs divided by deep river gorges and shaped by glaciation. Brez sits beneath the eastern massif, where pale, jagged rock towers over greener slopes and settled valleys. The contrast between the mountain walls and the village’s meadows and roofs gives the landscape both geological drama and a human scale. Snow on the upper slopes adds another distinct layer to views framed by the wooded foothills below.
