Piazzetta Santa Teresa is a small square on Gallipoli’s historic island quarter, named for the nearby Chiesa di Santa Teresa and set close to the town’s seafront. The intimate urban space frames a compact sequence of limestone façades, low terraces and steps that step down toward the harbor, offering a study in scale where human figures and moored fishing boats punctuate broad planes of stone. Light sculpts strong contrasts here—warm late-afternoon sun brings out honeyed tones in the masonry while onshore breezes ruffle the water, producing glinting reflections that amplify the square’s coastal character. Photographs work well from the quay or from the piazzetta’s higher corners, where the compositional rhythm of archways, balustrades and narrow lanes converges with maritime color and everyday movement.
