Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II is the compact central square of Locorotondo’s historic core, set on the ridge of the Itria Valley in Puglia. It sits where the town’s concentric, radial streets converge, so the square reads as a visual hub of whitewashed façades, wrought-iron balconies and stone paving that reflect the vernacular rhythm of the borgo. Photographically, the piazza reveals the town’s geometry: symmetrical arcs of buildings, narrow alleys fanning outward and a layered horizon of tiled roofs and low valley farmland beyond. Light sculpts the pale limestone and plaster—strong contrasts and long shadows in low sun, crisp mid‑day highlights on curved cornices—and seasonal blooms or hanging laundry add color accents against the predominantly white palette. The space is a pedestrian focal point and a natural vantage for capturing Locorotondo’s compact, circular plan and its relationship to the surrounding landscape.
