Piazza dell'Anfiteatro is the most remarkable piazza in Lucca, Italy. It is shaped like a Roman amphitheatre, with its ruins still visible, and surrounded by buildings such as the small Church of Saint Matteo and Donati Palace. Tourists will appreciate the majestic façade of Guinigi Tower that symbolises the power of the Lucca State of the Middle Ages as well as the beauty of its traditional architecture. There is a picturesque fountain of Neptune in the middle of the square and its old cobblestone pavement. Visitors may enjoy a panoramic view of the city occupying the terraces of the restaurants around the square. The square is also famous for its wonderful evening atmosphere with warm lights, occasional street musicians and smiling faces of locals gathering around the square.
