Piaran is a municipality in the department of Boyacá in Colombia, located just a few miles east of the regions capital Tunja. The municipality has its origins in the pre-Columbian times when the area was populated by indigenous peoples of the Muisca culture. Currently, there are still archaeological remains in the area that can be explored.

Piaran is also known for its traditional Spanish colonial-style town, known as Villa de Piaran, which was founded in the 19th century and retains much of its original architectural beauty. The town center is made up of traditional white-washed buildings, cobblestone streets and vibrant flower-filled courtyards. A number of churches can be found in the village, including San Antonio de Padua and Nuestra Señora del Carmen, both located near the town plaza. The town is also home to a number of unique natural sites, including the stunning Laguna de Piaran, a scenic lake surrounded by lush vegetation and stunning views. The stunning landscapes of the surrounding area make Piaran a great destination for outdoor activities such as hiking and bird watching. Visitors can also explore the area’s incredible historical sites, including centuries-old ruins, ancient burial sites and caves with petroglyphs.
