Petra tou Romiou
📍 From Joga Rock, Cyprus
Petra tou Romiou and the nearby Joga Rock can be found in Kouklia, on the southwest coast of Cyprus. The two sites are a stunning sight to behold, with natural rock formations jutting out from the Mediterranean Sea. Petra tou Romiou is a rocky headland that was supposedly created when the Greek hero Digenis Akioufis threw a large rock at the sea monster that was attacking him – the rock then became petrified and connected to the shore. Joga Rock is a large, naturally formed stone archway nearby. Both sites make for excellent views, with the blue of the sea perfectly offset by the reddish orange of the rock. You can get to the area by car, taking the E202 motorway to Kouklia, or with the PRC bus service.
