📍 From Inside, Germany
Pergamonmuseum. Das Panorama is a separate exhibition venue on the Kupfergraben, across the canal from Berlin’s Museum Island. It combines original antiquities from Pergamon, including sections of the Pergamon Altar’s Telephos frieze, with a vast 360-degree panorama by artist Yadegar Asisi. The image reconstructs the ancient city, whose remains lie at Bergama in western Turkey, during the Roman imperial era, placing its monumental architecture within a scene of everyday life. An elevated viewing platform reveals the relationship between the hilltop sanctuary, steep terraces and densely built slopes, while changing day-and-night lighting transforms the painted city. The contrast between the panoramic reconstruction and surviving marble sculpture gives the exhibition its distinctive visual character. This is not the main Pergamonmuseum building, which is undergoing extensive renovation.
