Pena de Bernal is a limestone peak located near the town of Bernal, in the state of Querétaro in Central Mexico. It stands at almost 3,500 meters tall and is believed to be the third tallest monolith in the world. Not only is it a prominent and impressive natural monument, but it is also home to an endangered species of falcons.
The site has become an increasingly popular destination for visitors to Mexico, as it is accessible for day trips from the nearby city of Querétaro and the capital, Mexico City. Its main attraction is its incredible views from the top, which can be easily accessed via the chairlift and its many trails. Climbers usually start their climbs at the La Mina parking lot, located at the base of the hill. Visitors will find plenty of restaurants and souvenir shops near the main entrance. The summit has many rock formations, caves and plenty of plants, so it is easily suitable for eco-tourism and outdoor activities. Although it doesn't snow, in the winter the temperature may drop to 5°C, so visitors should make sure to wear appropriate clothing if planning on a trip during the coldest months.
