📍 From Parliament Hill, Canada
The Peace Tower rises above Centre Block on Parliament Hill, forming the defining vertical landmark of Ottawa’s parliamentary precinct. The Gothic Revival clock and bell tower replaced the Victoria Tower after the 1916 fire and was dedicated in 1927 as a memorial to Canadians who died in the First World War. Its Memorial Chamber reinforces that commemorative purpose, while a 53-bell carillon and four large clock faces make the tower both ceremonial and functional. From the main lawn, its stone tracery, pinnacles, steep copper roof, and central placement emphasize the symmetry of Parliament; views from across the Ottawa River show its commanding role in the capital’s skyline. Public access is suspended during the long-term rehabilitation of Centre Block.
