The Parish Church of St Michael stands in the historic center of Innichen, the Italian town also known as San Candido, close to its celebrated Romanesque Collegiate Church. Medieval in origin, the parish church was reshaped in the 18th century and is now a vivid expression of Tyrolean Baroque, with an ornate façade, onion-domed bell tower, ceiling frescoes, and richly gilded altars. Its pale exterior and sculptural tower rise above the pedestrian streets and pastel buildings of the town center, while the elaborate interior offers a striking contrast to the heavier Romanesque architecture nearby.
