Paróquia São Pelegrino is a Roman Catholic church in the São Pelegrino district, close to central Caxias do Sul and closely associated with the city’s Italian heritage. Its restrained exterior contrasts with an art-rich interior dominated by monumental religious paintings by Italian-Brazilian artist Aldo Locatelli, including the dramatic Last Supper in the sanctuary and extensive ceiling decoration. A replica of Michelangelo’s Pietà and bronze entrance doors by sculptor Augusto Murer add further artistic detail. The long nave, painted vaults and strong central axis create striking symmetry, while the darker interior concentrates attention on the luminous figures and saturated colors above the altar. As this remains an active place of worship, quiet and respectful photography is appropriate.
