📍 From Wellington Street, Canada
Parliament Hill is the seat of Canada’s federal government, occupying a prominent bluff above the Ottawa River in central Ottawa, opposite Gatineau, Quebec. Its Gothic Revival complex is defined by copper roofs, carved stone façades and the Peace Tower, whose clock face and soaring silhouette anchor the capital’s skyline. The present Centre Block was built after fire destroyed its predecessor in 1916; the adjoining Library of Parliament survived and remains one of the precinct’s most distinctive structures. Broad lawns and formal symmetry create the familiar frontal view from Wellington Street, while river-facing angles reveal the buildings’ dramatic elevation above the water. Centre Block is undergoing a long-term rehabilitation, so fencing, construction activity and visitor access around the precinct can change.
