The Hungarian Parliament building, one of the most iconic sites in Budapest, is a must-see attraction for any visitor. Situated on the banks of the Danube River, it has been the seat of the Hungarian National Assembly since 1902. Its early neo-Gothic style is characterized by ornate facades and intricate spires. Its largest dome, known as the Crown of St Stephen, stands 96 m (314 ft) high and dominates the Budapest skyline. Inside the building, visitors may take in the sparkling gold and velvet interiors, visit the chamber of the National Assembly and view historical relics such as the original Crown of St. Stephen. Guided tours are available from the Visitor Centre, offering a great insight into the architecture and history of the building. From its spectacular location, visitors can also enjoy breathtaking views over the Danube and the entire city.
