Panteó August Urrutia i Roldán is an ornate family pantheon in Barcelona’s Cementiri de Poblenou, one of the city’s most important 19th‑century burial grounds. It commemorates members of the Urrutia i Roldán family, part of the industrial and commercial bourgeoisie that expanded Barcelona during the late 1800s; the monument illustrates how elites expressed status through funerary architecture. Architecturally it blends neoclassical symmetry with sculptural detail typical of Catalan funerary art: a formal façade with pilasters and entablature framing a central door, funerary reliefs and sculpted angels or allegorical figures, and a small domed or pitched roofed chamber that shelters family crypts. The materials—stone and carved marble—age to a patina that highlights the carved inscriptions and iconography of mourning and resurrection. Its interest lies less in grand scale than in craftsmanship and in what it reveals about social history and tastes in Barcelona’s Belle Époque. The pantheon sits along the cemetery’s notable route of modern and historic mausolea, frequently cited in thematic guided walks focused on funerary sculpture and urban memory.
