The Taj Mahal is a majestic 17th century Mughal mausoleum located in Agra, India. It is one of the most recognisable buildings in the world and is widely considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful monuments. Built by Shah Jahan to serve as a memorial for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, it is made of white marble inlaid with semi-precious stones and ornamented with intricate carvings throughout. The Taj’s four flanking minarets offer spectacular views of the mausoleum and its grounds, which include lush gardens and a reflecting pool. Visitors to the monument are allowed inside the crypt and can take in all the elegant details. There are restrictions on what can be brought into the monument, so make sure to double check the rules before visiting.
