Hierve el Agua, located in Oaxaca, Mexico, is a unique and spectacular sight that has to be seen to be believed. The site consists of two massive cascades of natural mineral-rich terraces created from water seeping from a nearby cliff. These ‘petrified’ waterfalls support a unique ecosystem, where tiny crustaceans, mosquito larvae and fish call the pools their home. Visitors can enjoy the area from viewpoints, admire the cascades from afar, or dip their feet into the natural pools. Hire a guide for the full Hierve el Agua experience and hear stories about the area's history, wildlife, geology and culture. There are camping opportunities and local guest houses nearby, where visitors can enjoy the magical atmosphere at night.
